Lighten UP by Mel Eaton

Opening Night - All Welcome to the first viewing of "Lighten UP" Art Exhibtion by Mel Eaton.

Mel Eaton is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Rangiora, Waimakariri. Her work explores themes of perception, value, and nostalgia, transforming everyday objects into unexpected statements.

Drawing inspiration from Pop Art, Hyperrealism, and Conceptual Art, her work invites curiosity and a second look, often revealing a playful subversion of humour and social commentary, questioning how we assign meaning to objects and experiences. Mel blends intentional detail and techniques with whimsical conceptualism, exploring the tension between meticulous labour and instant gratification, adding layers of meaning that invite thought without demanding it.

Alongside her studio practice, she is engaged in mural projects and creative community-building, bringing a sense of creative wonder to all aspects of her work.
