BAMP Project presents Lōkahi: A Celebration of Maui with Lukas Nelson, Paul Simon, Stephen Wilson Jr., Lily Meola, the Maui Country Band, plus family and friends for a benefit concert on Saturday, January 10 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center - A&B Amphitheater/Yokouchi Pavilion to support Housing for Healthcare, a vital initiative addressing the island’s urgent shortage of medical professionals.
Lōkahi: oneness, community, harmony, unity. Lōkahi is the Hawaiian word for people coming together to take care of one another, uniting as one. Join us as we come together as a community to share an amazing night under the stars with an incredible lineup of talent. Lukas Nelson’s vision for LŌKAHI was to create an evening of special performances and celebration with his Hawai’i music community. And in the spirit of Lōkahi, uniting together to support your community, all net proceeds will benefit local Maui charity Housing for Healthcare.
Housing for Healthcare is the Maui Health Foundation's initiative to address the island’s urgent shortage of medical professionals. Maui Memorial Medical Center is the island’s only acute-care hospital, serving 165,000 residents and two million annual visitors each year. The island faces a critical challenge: a severe lack of affordable housing for physicians, nurses, and specialists. This shortage has made it increasingly difficult to attract and retain the healthcare workforce essential to the community’s wellbeing.
Maui is currently short more than 160 physicians across key specialties – from family and internal medicine to oncology, surgery, orthopedics, and urology. There is only one primary care physician for every 1,500–1,700 residents, and many surgical specialties experience 20–60% shortages. The Lahaina wildfires further intensified this crisis, displacing healthcare workers who already called Maui home. To meet this need, the Maui Health Foundation is undertaking Housing for Healthcare, a $20 million effort to build 31 transitional homes for healthcare professionals, located near the hospital.
“A few years ago, the community came together to support one another during a difficult time. We had a concert called Lokahi, and it was a beautiful reminder of how much of a difference we can make when we band together. It was especially powerful under the banner of music.
We've decided to come together again and play some music to support another good cause. See everybody there ❤️”
