This year, we're incorporating the contest awards ceremony into the conference schedule. It's fun to see who the winners of the contests are, even if you're not entered yourself.
In addition, we have four good speakers lined up for the conference, which will be held at the Joplin Public Library on Saturday, October 25.
The conference schedule and information about the speakers and their topics are on our website at OzarksWritersLeague.com. The contest categories and guidelines are also there.
For those coming into Joplin from out of town on Friday evening, October 24, I've reserved a block of rooms at the Quality Inn. This place is in the same immediate vicinity.
Cost of the rooms (before taxes) is only $75 per night, and they are pretty decent rooms, especially for that price. Just call 417-385-1933 and tell them you're with the Ozarks Writers' League.
To assure availability, make your reserva tion by September 1. They will still honor the $75 price for our members after that date but will not guarantee availability. Location and other details about the hotel are on our website.
It looks as if we will not have any sort of formal or structured meeting
Friday evening (for lack of a good place to have one), but I've reserved a private area at Old Chicago Pizza for us to get together for fun and conviviality starting at 7 p.m. that evening. The Old Chicago Pizza is very close to the Quality Inn, no more than a block or so.
Probably within walking distance. And they do serve other food items besides
pizza.
Hope to see you at the conference, and get those contest entries ready.
