CANDIDATES MUST BE INVITED TO GRADE BY A FELLOW JBI BLACK BELT THAT HAS NOMINATED THEM - GRADINGS ARE NOT OPEN
Any JBI Black Belt that wishes to attempt a Dan Grading must have satisfied the prerequisites to attempt to grade.
Grading will commence after the JBI National Championship has concluded.
Bring with you:
Strong Gi (or two)
Leather Shin Pads
16oz gloves
MMA gloves
mouthguard
groin guard
if possible NHG or Supersafe helmet.
Here is a quick outline of how the gradings work and try to post up some more details as we go.
Jissen Budo International Black Belt/Dan Grading
To recognise the proficiency in martial and fighting skills with international rank and enable members to focus their martial arts journey.
Grading will consist of:
1 - Stand Up Skill At Range (10 points)
- Striking
- Combinations
- Footwork
- Padwork
- Partner Drills
2 - Clinching Range (10 points)
- Striking
- Transitions
- Balance
- Throws & Takedowns
- Partner Drills
3 - Ground Fighting (10 points)
- Holds
- Escapes
- Transitions
- Strikes
- Defence
- Stand Ups
- Partner Drills
4 - Mixed Skills & Tactics (5 points)
- Combining Ranges
- Transitions between Ranges
- Countering Range Transitions
You will be taught and drill together. You will then be asked to show proficiency in different aspects of each section. Live partner work will also be included the test to show current capabilities and responses.
Each section is worth either 10 points or 5 points of mixed ability, with a maximum total of 35 points to be awarded, based on skill, application and experience.
1st Dan = 15 points total
2nd Dan = 20 points total
3rd Dan = 25 points total
4th Dan = 30 points total
5th Dan = 35 points total
Shodan is the highest possible rank to attain in the first test.
Points earnt below 15 designate what Kyu level you have achieved (ie. 13 points = Brown Belt 2nd kyu etc).
Then to progress to the next Dan it should be clear where you need to focus on your training. I am happy to provide guidance and instruction for anyone that is interested.
Successful candidates will be awarded a certificate and plain black belt on the day. Then will be given directions on how to order a custom embroidered black belt from Asami in Japan, which they have the option to purchase.
JBI Dan Grading Cost - $220 (plain belt & certificate cost)
JBI Kyu Grading Cost - $120 (includes belt and certificate)
Grading payment is done before training day commences and applicants are reimbursed if they do not pass.
Time - Immediately after the JBI National Championship
