POW MIA Remembrance

National MIA/POW Recognition Day is held the third Friday of September each year. VFW Post 673 annually remembers those who are/were MIA’s and POW’s with a recognition service at the post.

The date for this year’s recognition service will be Friday, September 19, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the post at 3131 N Newton Street in Jasper.

Chairman Ed Oser will be focusing this
year’s service on Colonel Charles E Shelton. Colonel Shelton was an Air Force reconnaissance pilot flying a plane over northern Laos when he was shot down on April 29, 1965. Colonel Shelton was known to be the last POW from the Vietnam War Era. Along with Colonel Shelton, Chairman Oser will also provide details on his wife’s efforts in leading the MIA/POW movement.

We encourage all post members, as well as members of the public, to attend this event in remembrance of all MIA and POW’s as a way to convey the message associated with this recognition event “Never Forgotten.”
