🌲🎣 ABOUT THIS EVENT – CAST, CAMP & CONNECT
📍 Shakamak State Park
🗓 June 19–21, 2026
Cast, Camp & Connect is a summer camping weekend built for veterans, families, and supporters who want to unplug, slow down, and reconnect outdoors.
Set in the heart of Shakamak State Park, this three-day experience blends fishing, swimming, campfires, and family time into a relaxed, welcoming environment where everyone can participate at their own pace.
This is not a rigid schedule or a high-pressure competition. It’s a weekend designed for real connection, whether that happens with a fishing rod in your hand, your feet in the water, or sitting by the fire watching the kids laugh.

🎯 WHAT TO EXPECT
🎣 Fishing for All Skill Levels
Fishing is the centerpiece of the weekend and is guided and supported by Justin McDonald, Warriors In Nature Project’s Lead Angling Specialist and Director of Public Affairs.
Justin will be available throughout the event to:
• Help beginners get started
• Offer tips and instruction
• Support families and youth anglers
• Keep fishing approachable, fun, and engaging
No experience is required. Fishing gear will be available for those who need it, and kids are encouraged to fish alongside adults.
⸻
🏊 Swimming, Relaxation & Free Time
Designated swimming areas, lakeside relaxation, and open free time make this a true summer getaway. Participation is always optional and self-paced.
⸻
🏕 Camping & Campfire Nights
Camp together under the stars and enjoy:
• Evening campfires
• Storytelling and laughter
• Relaxed, meaningful conversations
There’s nothing rushed here. Nights are for slowing down and enjoying the moment.
⸻
🐟 Community Fish Fry
Saturday night brings everyone together for a classic fish fry dinner, shared as a community and enjoyed in true summer-camp style. It’s one of the highlights of the weekend and a perfect way to end the day.
