We are so happy to announce we are apart of the Winter Parade and we are working with an Artist called Laura to create a large lantern structure and will need your help with making it happen! This year theme is British Wildlife. For this parade, we are creating a Stoat. They are predators but gorgeous little animals, very cute and very clever. This huge white stoat will be chasing a mouse throughout the parade; and to make it look wintery and magical, we'll be flanked by giant snowdrops.
Everything we make will be lit up somehow, to make it into a lantern. As the parade is in the evening, we'll all look tremendous lit up in the dark. We will be hosting 5 workshops leading up to December, where we will do lots of different activities to make the Stoat's part of the parade absolutely beautiful! Here is what we have planned for each workshop:
Stoat Hats made from leftover face shields. Everyone on team stoat can have a Stoat hat for the parade! These are so easy to make with cutting out and gluing.
The Mouse This is a smaller lantern on wheels that someone will push along the parade route. It can scurry about being chased by the stoat. I'll make the structure and I'll need your help to decorate it and make it actually look like a mouse!
Snowdrop Lanterns with Emma Sheridan Emma is working on the parade with many different groups, helping with every group's flowers and plants. Emma will show you how to turn sticks, plastic aprons and paper coffee cups into excellent Snowdrop lanterns.
Stoat fur: We might need two workshops to cover the stoat in fur) We will make the stoat look furry and fluffy by cutting up and gluing leftover PPE aprons to the lantern.
Willow Wands and Leaves if the stoat gets it's fur in one workshop we'll make some willow star wands to wave as we parade. I also have some great big leaves from the summer parade - we can make them less summery and more wintery.
All of the materials and equipment will be provided on the day and Laura will show us how to do everything and will help whenever I am needed. You just need to be there and ready to make things! Please wear old clothes as the glue we will be using might ruin clothes and shoes. We are excited …….. hope you are too!!
