JCT is thrilled to announce auditions for our Fall 2025 production of Roald Dahl's Matilda: The Musical!
For this show, we need big voices and big personalities! We are looking for child actors in grades 3-8 to play unforgettable characters such as Matilda Wormwood, various classmates from Bruce Bogtrotter to Amanda Thripp, and an ensemble of students attending the infamous Crunchem Hall. We are also looking for adult and high school-aged actors to play the iconic roles of Miss Honey, Miss Trunchbull, Mr. & Mrs. Wormwood, and many more (see attached list).
We welcome both experienced actors and first time participants. All that’s needed is a willingness to work hard and have fun!
Auditions will be held at the Jamestown Recreation Center, 41 Conanicus Avenue, on Thursday September 4 from 6-9pm. We’ll begin with children in grades 3-8; adults and high school teens will audition later in the evening. Please email
amN0MDI4MzUgfCBnbWFpbCAhIGNvbQ== with your name and, if in grades 3-12, your grade level, to be assigned an appointment group and preparation instructions. The initial audition will consist of singing only.
An informational meeting for parents/guardians will be held on September 4 while the grades 3-8 group is auditioning. One parent or guardian from each family must attend this meeting.
Actors who are unable to attend the September 4 auditions may send in a video audition or make alternate arrangements for an in-person initial audition. Write to
amN0MDI4MzUgfCBnbWFpbCAhIGNvbQ== to make arrangements.
Some actors will be needed for callbacks, which will be held in the afternoon on Sunday, September 7. Callbacks may include dancing, reading from the script, and additional singing.
For this production, there is one major non-singing role, Mrs. Phelps the librarian, available for an adult actor. If you are an adult non-singer who wishes to audition for this role only, please send us an email and we can set up a separate acting audition. Please note that actors who participate in the regular auditions will also be considered for the librarian role.
Rehearsals will be held regularly on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 6-9pm and Sundays from 1-5pm. Additionally, rehearsals will be held on a few select Fridays from 6-9pm. Tech week will begin on Sunday, November 16, and actors will need to be available every day that week, through the show’s closing on November 23. Performances will be held Thursday, November 20 - Sunday, November 23. Please note that not everyone will be needed for every rehearsal. Ensemble members and those with cameo/feature roles will typically rehearse 1-2x per week. Those with lead/principal roles will generally rehearse 2-3x per week.
All participants will be required to register and pay a $25 membership fee upon casting - this membership fee is a one time fee per season and will cover the entire 25-26 season. Anyone requiring assistance with this fee may email:

Actors may also be required to provide their own base costumes, often drawing from the home wardrobe. Additionally, parents/guardians of children 17 and under will be asked to volunteer in one or more ways, such as taking turns providing young actor help/supervision during rehearsals and performances, helping with sets, costumes, or props, etc.
This production will be directed by Ricky Martin, with music direction by E. Justin Simone and choreography by Charlene Ellsworth-Reed, Sam Matthias, and Carol Hopkins.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We are always happy to help!
