Why Councilor Regan and Commissioner Propst chose these articles:
"In Teton County (including within the Town of Jackson and on public lands), at least seven major hotel and short-term rental projects are under construction, in the pipeline, or under public discussion. This wave of intensive new development has caused many Teton County residents to question the desirability of perpetual and unlimited growth in Teton County and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. These three short articles address different but related elements of overdevelopment and overtourism: induced highway demand and the futility of widening highways to address traffic congestion; the perils of overtourism and public responses in several European holiday destinations; and the importance of preserving existing housing stock to provide affordable housing, rather than relying exclusively on building more housing. Overall, these articles provide the foundation for a discussion exploring the limits to growth in Teton County."
