Riot Act Inc. Presents: Fighting Fascists in the Forties
A Summer Film & Discussion Series
Thursdays at 7 PM | Starting July 24 | Riot Act Studio @ Center for the Arts
Join Riot Act Inc. this summer for Fighting Fascists in the Forties a five-week film series exploring how Hollywood responded to the rise of fascism and isolationism in the years leading up to and during World War II.
Screenings & Dates:
July 24 – Mrs. Miniver
July 31 – The Great Dictator
August 7 – Casablanca
August 14 – The Mortal Storm
August 21 – Edge of Darkness
Each Thursday night screening will be followed by an engaging talk-back session where we’ll dive into the film’s context messages and lasting impact—discussing politics propaganda and the power of cinema.
Rhetoric like “America First” “No foreign entanglements” and questions of national interest vs. humanitarian action may sound familiar today—but they were just as hotly debated in the 1940s.
This series invites us to reflect on how film shaped—and was shaped by—public opinion political agendas and the global fight against fascism.
Suggested donation: $10 per screening.
Come for the movie stay for the conversation.
