History of Jazz Music (lecture):
Join us for a workshop where we'll explore the fascinating history of jazz music! From its origins to its modern-day forms, we'll dive into the diverse range of jazz styles and the groundbreaking musicians who shaped them. Through listening sessions and discussions on musical aspects, not only will you gain a deeper understanding of how jazz has evolved over time and the various styles it covers, but you'll also learn how to identify these. Whether you're a jazz enthusiast or new to the genre, this workshop promises to be enlightening and fulfilling.
Who is your teachers?
Julien Gillain, Belgian pianist and violinist, earned his master’s degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in both instruments, before furthering his studies in New York City with private lessons. As the pianist of the renowned band Reverent Juke, he regularely performs across Europe and Asia, bringing lively swing music to Lindy Hop festivals. Julien has a significant experience playing directly for dancers, which has given him a good understanding of the connection between musicians and dancers. His experience as a Lindy Hop dancer also allows him to connect music and dance. Julien has taught musicality and jazz history to dancers in addition to his work teaching instruments and theory in music schools.
