Did you know that your baby’s brain is only around half of its adult size at birth? During the first year of life, billions of neural connections are formed, creating the brain’s architecture for life.
These early, foundational years of brain development depend heavily on strong, healthy bonds with a caregiver. Research shows that interaction, bonding, and play are vital from the very beginning of infancy.
In this session, we will:
- Explore how the baby’s brain develops in the early months
- Look at how early brain architecture is formed
- Discuss practical, everyday ways parents can interact and connect with their babies
- Consider factors that can impact the parent-infant relationship
We will also acknowledge that parenting in the modern world can feel stressful and isolating. Building on previous sessions, we’ll reflect on how to support our own emotional and mental wellbeing while adapting to parenting and motherhood.
A kind and supportive space for new mums and babies, the session will be led by Jo Aubrey, a mum of three and a UK-registered nurse with extensive experience supporting new mothers.
