Join us for a vigil and community building
Place: Chauncy Swan Park, Iowa City
Date/Time: September 30 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Orange Shirt Day honors Indigenous children who were genocided in Canada's residential school system and acknowledges the trauma of survivors and their families.
This year, Great Plains Action Society is expanding the scope of our yearly vigil to include the Palestinian, Indigenous Migrant, and Sudanese communities who are grieving the loss of countless children from heinous acts of colonial violence.
This Orange Shirt Day event is a call for solidarity, a reminder that the struggle for justice is not isolated to one community, but is a collective effort that requires the support and understanding of us all. We invite the Iowa City community to join us in honoring the past, acknowledging the present, and putting an end to harm and slaughter of children everywhere.
Please wear orange, however, we will have 100 #everychildmatters shirts for a “pay what you can” price. Organizations are welcome to table and the park is wheelchair accessible. Emotional support will be available. Speakers TBA. For more information, email
