Paul Newman: Luck is an Art

An outcast, alcoholic Boston lawyer (Paul Newman) sees the chance to salvage his career and self-respect by taking a medical malpractice case to trial rather than settling. Directed by Sidney Lumet (12 Angry Men), The Verdict was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. It was considered to be a turning point in Newman’s later career. He finally won the Best Acting Oscar for his return to the character of Fast Eddie Felson a few years later in The Color of Money (and in true Paul Newman fashion, he wasn’t there to accept the award).
