Elin Hilderbrand in conv with Lan Samantha Chang - The Academy [at ICPL]

Writers' Workshop alum Elin Hilderbrand will read from her newest book, The Academy, and will be joined in conversation with current Writers' Workshop director, Lan Samantha Chang. Described as an "irresistible, deliciously scandalous story of one drama-filled year at a New England boarding school," The Academy was co-written by Elin's daughter Shelby Cunningham (who will not be present) and is praised on Goodreads: "Ever since reading Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld I’ve been hoping to find another one to enjoy. Well, Elin and daughter Shelby have provided an excellent read!"

Elin Hilderbrand is the beloved, best-selling author of over 30 novels. A graduate of the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, she has lived year-round on Nantucket for more than 30 years. She enjoys reading and traveling, going to the beach and barre class, and cooking for her four adult children and many friends. She is also a grateful 10-year breast cancer survivor. Hildebrand's best-selling novel, The Perfect Couple, was adapted by Netflix into a six-episode limited series starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schrieber. She is the co-host of the hit literary podcast 'Books, Beach, & Beyond' with the creator of Tim Talks Books, Tim Ehrenberg, and she has a line of apparel and gift collections inspired by her beloved characters and books. The Academy was co-written with her daughter, Shelby Cunningham.

Lan Samantha Chang is the author of a collection of short fiction, Hunger, and three novels: Inheritance; All Is Forgotten, Nothing Is Lost; and The Family Chao. Her work has been translated into nine languages and has been chosen twice for The Best American Short Stories. She has received creative writing fellowships from Stanford University, Princeton University, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Note: This event will be at the Iowa City Public Library (address listed below), and after the reading, there will be an opportunity for attendees to have their books signed and/or inscribed. Also, if you wear black clothing to this event, you could be tagged in Elin's social media channels!
