About Masa Paper: Masa is a versatile and affordable Japanese paper commonly used for watercolor, sumi-e painting, and printmaking. Its strength and flexibility make it especially well-suited for wet techniques. Masa is soft and white, with both internal and surface sizing, allowing it to handle washes beautifully. One side of the paper is smoother and shinier, while the other has a slight texture, providing artists with multiple surface options. Although sometimes called “rice paper,” masa is not made from rice; it is produced from sulphite pulp.
