About the event

Cuban Dance! Mash Up Series!
Monday 8.30pm MASH UP SERIES WITH CARA AND ROD
OPEN LEVEL PARTNERED DANCE
CUBAN SON * PACHANGA * MAMBO * CHA CHA CHA

Duration: 13/10 – 15/12

This course is a great, fun way to learn three new styles in one format! Giving students a great opportunity to introduce themselves to these styles to use socially on the dance floor or to gain some fun new combinations.

Cuban Son is first and foremost a distinct music style that originated from east Cuba during the 19th century. During the 20th Century, it gradually gained popularity and turned from music and dance for the peasants, to a big hit in Havana’s ballrooms. Cuban Salsa dancer will learn and massively improve his/her leading/following skills if he/she chooses to dabble in Son.

Pachanga is a lively, Afro-Cuban dance and music style that emerged in the late 1950s and early 1960s, known for its energetic footwork and playful, syncopated rhythms. It's characterized by quick, intricate steps, hip movements, and a joyful bounce, often incorporated into salsa shines and footwork.

Mambo is a lively Cuban dance, characterized by strong hip movements, sharp, quick steps, and a sensual feel. It's a partner dance that developed in Cuba in the 1940s, related to the danzón but faster and more energetic. Mambo is known for its flirtatious and passionate nature, often incorporating exaggerated hip movements and flowing arm movements

Cha Cha Cha. The story of the Cha-Cha-Cha begins in the 1950s in the vibrant dance halls of Cuba. It emerged as a variation of the Mambo, infused with a syncopated three-step chasse, giving it a distinctive flair. The infectious rhythm and playful steps quickly gained popularity, transcending cultural boundaries and making its way to the international dance scene.

Cost: $160 for the term.
