Media Lab: Choose Your Own Adventure - The Art of Story-Based Games
Discover the art of storytelling in interactive game design with Nested Realities!

About this Event

Ever wondered what makes games so engaging? Explore the gripping art of story-based gameplay, including narrative design techniques of interactive gameplay, with writer and filmmaker Paige Webster from Nested Realities.

In this session participants will:

  • Examine how choice impacts story outcomes and player experience; from subtle shifts to major plot-altering moments.
  • Learn about branching dialogue, moral dilemmas, and consequence systems.
  • Take a behind-the-scenes look at a fan-favourite open-world game where storytelling, action, and player choice come together perfectly.
  • Dive into some case studies of blockbuster open-world games to see how story, gameplay, and character development intertwine.

About the Facilitator:

Paige Webster is a writer of poetry, prose, and screen. She adores all things media — films, books, games & more — and is an avid lover of speculative fiction.

She joined Nested Realities in 2022 and has gone on to facilitate virtual reality and video editing workshops and champion the use of creative technology.
