Learn how to create your own small batch of Bastille bar soap using entirely natural ingredients, resulting in a soap perfect for sensitive skin.
You will discover the science of soap-making, explore the ingredients suitable for homemade soap, and create a 1-pound batch batch of soap to take home, cut, cure, and enjoy.
Please note, you will be required to wear safety gear for this class - gloves, glasses, and an apron. We will be working with lye. You'll also want to wear clothing that can get dirty or stained as unexpected splashes of oil or lye water can occur. Lye can causing stinging and itching if it gets on your skin, the safety gear is to prevent that contact. However, if you do get lye on your skin, I have a station of soap and water to wash it off quickly.
This class is suitable for ages 14 and up. Any children 10-13 years old who want to attend the class must be accompanied by an adult who can assist the child. Parent does not have to purchase a ticket if they are only there to supervise their child. If the parent also wants to make a batch of soap, they will need to purchase a ticket. Children 9 and under will not be permitted in the class for safety reasons.
If you have a mold you've been wanting to use, or additives you want to add to your soap (flowers, clays, salts, etc.) You are welcome to bring them. Molds must not be made of aluminum. I will let you know how any additives may affect your soap batter. You agree to not hold me liable if your soap stays soft or doesn't set, or otherwise doesn't turn out as expected due to any outside additives.
