Wells will discuss the most personal research he has ever done, an investigative journey to uncover the truth behind his father's death in Vietnam. Because: A CIA Coverup and a Son’s Odyssey to Find the Father He Never Knew is an investigative memoir about a son’s 33-year odyssey to uncover the truth and meaning of his whistleblower father’s covered-up and still CIA-classified death in Vietnam. Through archival and field research across two continents, Wells learns not only about events that shaped his father’s love for God, family, country, truth, and duty but also about a government lie and a CIA coverup of his death.
About James Wells:
James Wells is a retired criminology and criminal justice professor in the School of Justice Studies in the College of Justice, Safety, and Military Science at Eastern Kentucky University, and is the recipient of the 2025 Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences John Howard Award.
