Long Island’s own Hal Hartley (The Unbelievable Truth, Henry Fool, Ned Rifle, Fay Grim, Amateur, Trust, Simple Men, Flirt, The Girl from Monday, Meanwhile, The Book of Life) returns with his new film. Where to Land is a philosophical farce about Joe Fulton, a semi-retired director of romantic comedies. He decides he should have his last will and testament drawn up. At the same time, eager to be outdoors and work with his hands, he applies for a job as assistant grounds keeper at a nearby cemetery. His highly dramatic girlfriend, his impressionable young niece, his neighbors and friends all assume he is dying but is too brave and selfless to tell anyone about it. During the course of a single day, Joe struggles to correct these misunderstandings while trying to decide what the right aspirations are for a man his age. After a lifetime of work and play, love and struggle, success and failure, where—and how—should he land? The film features actors long familiar to Hartley fans, such as Bill Sage, Robert John Burke, and Edie Falco, and also includes less frequent but seasoned collaborators as Gia Crovatin, Joe Perrino, and Obie Award winner Kathleen Chalfant (Familiar Touch). Finally, the film introduces the talents of a younger generation of actors: Kim Taff, Katelyn Sparks, Jeremy Hendrik, Jay Lenox and Aida Johannes. (USA, 2025, 75 min., color, DCP)
