One of cinema’s strongest expression of the transcendent power of romantic love, 7th Heaven stars Charles Farrell and Janet Gaynor star as a poor street cleaner and an abused prostitute who create their own private heaven on the seventh-floor of a Paris tenement. Their fragile but luminous happiness is tested by the outbreak of World War I, yet sustained by an unshakable devotion. Considered one of greatest of all silent films, at the first Academy Awards, it won Oscars for Best Actress (Gaynor), Best Director (Borzage) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Benjamin Glazer).
