"By the People" Introductory Meeting

The Library of Congress "By the People" initiative invites the public to help transcribe, review, and tag historical documents from the Library’s vast collections. Launched in 2018, its goal is to make the Library's collections more accessible and searchable for researchers, students, and the general public. The initiative will improve access to digitized documents by creating full-text transcriptions that can be searched and read more easily. It also will support educators, students, and researchers by making primary sources more usable.

At this event you will learn about the program and get started on transcribing historical documents using the library's equipment or your own. This program is open to anyone, but the ability to read cursive writing is a plus!
