Sorry men, this one is a women-only guided hike led by experienced and capable female TrailBound Project instructors and guides. It's an opportunity for women to connect with other women who share a love for the outdoors and want to forge friendships for future adventures and be a part of the women's outdoor community. It also allows a safe environment to focus on female-centric topics that matter to them.
Add a $5 microspike rental to your cart after registering for this event if you need to borrow microspikes for the day. We only supply the best - Hillsound Trail Crampons or Kahtoola Microspikes.
The Kaaterskill Falls hike is 5 miles and 1,000' of elevation up and down. It's a moderate hike that we'll take at a leisurely pace.
We’ll begin from the Laurel House Road trailhead and follow a well-packed trail through peaceful hemlocks toward the upper viewing platform. After crossing a footbridge over Kaaterskill Creek, we’ll reach the first overlook with great views of the upper tier. The upper tier allows us to see the lower viewing area, where the full waterfall drops into a dramatic amphitheater often filled with ice pillars, shimmering spray, and winter formations that make this spot truly magical.
The route includes icy sections where microspikes are essential. We’ll take our time and enjoy the scenery, capturing views of the frozen falls and valley below. On clear days, distant mountain ridgelines stretch across the landscape, offering excellent photo opportunities.
Although we hope there will be snow and/or ice for some fun winter hiking with microspikes, the weather is completely unpredictable. If we end up with a dry winter hike, we'll still have a great time and go over winter hiking best practices and skills such as how to dress, the different gear we carry, and other seasonal trip planning considerations to make winter hiking just as comfortable and enjoyable as the rest of the year.
The parking and hike details are emailed after registration.
