About the event

November talk: The Photography of Working People in Yorkshire Between the Wars
Michael Nolan, a retired secondary school headteacher, explores photography between the wars when mass photography was first developed. Not only did this provide opportunities for ‘others’ to photograph working people; but crucially it also gave working people the chance to portray themselves- perhaps for the first time in history? The contrast and the clash between these two very different photographies of the same subject matter reveals much about the strains in the society of inter-war Britain.
