What is a Wet Felted Handbag?
A wet felted handbag is made by layering soft, unspun wool fibers and bonding them together using warm water, soap, and agitation — no sewing required! The technique creates a thick, durable fabric that is sculpted into shape around a resist (a template that forms the bag’s interior space). The result is a seamless, sturdy bag with a hand-molded shape that reflects your style and color choices.
What You'll Learn & Do:
Over the course of the workshop, you will:
Learn the fundamentals of wet felting, including fiber layout, layering, and design.
Learn how to use a variety of wet felting tools and techniques.
Use a resist to shape your bag with a seamless construction method.
Choose from several templates and styles to create a bag that fits your personal taste — from envelope-style clutches, messenger style, or make a tote.
Work with vibrant wool roving, yarn and wool "prefelt" to design patterns, blend colors, and customize your bag.
Felt, full, and shape your bag using your hands, warm water, and natural soap.
Rinse and block your finished piece, which will dry overnight at home and be ready to use.
This hands-on class includes a 30-minute snack break, so bring your refreshments. All materials — wool, resist templates, felting tools, and soap — are provided.
Class size is limited to 4 participants to ensure personal instruction and a relaxed atmosphere.
