The program features Music on the Hill Artistic Director and cellist Richard Belcher, joined by violinists Maureen Nelson and Alan Snow, and violist Lydia Grimes. Together, they present an evocative journey through sound, exploring the ways music reflects memory, place, and emotion across generations.
The performance includes works by Pierre Jalbert (Icefield Sonnets), Sally Beamish (A Myndin’), Samuel Barber(“Adagio” from String Quartet No. 1), Thomas Adès (“O Albion” from Arcadiana), John Corigliano (Snapshot: Circa1909), Florence Price (“Juba” from String Quartet No. 2), Caroline Shaw (Entr’acte), and Ralph Vaughan Williams (Epilogue).
“This program feels like a conversation between centuries,” says Artistic Director Richard Belcher. “Each composer looks backward and forward at once—echoing traditions while
creating something entirely new. It’s a beautiful reminder that great music always transcends time.”
Whispers through Time invites listeners into an afternoon of beauty, nostalgia, and discovery—an intimate celebration of chamber music’s timeless voice.
