Mantrailing Foundations

Mantrailing is a specialist form of scent work where dogs are trained to locate a specific person by following their unique human scent. Using a scent article, such as a worn item of clothing, the dog learns to identify and trail that individual’s scent through the environment, working across a variety of surfaces and conditions. The dog leads the search, making independent decisions while the handler learns to read and trust their dog’s body language and indications. Mantrailing is suitable for dogs of all breeds, ages, and experience levels and provides exceptional mental stimulation, confidence building, and controlled physical exercise. It is widely used in operational settings such as search and rescue, but it is equally valuable as an enriching activity that strengthens the partnership between dog and handler while allowing the dog to do what it does best, use its nose.
