OPENING EVENT - Dox by Qubus: Czech Design Pop-Up Shop

The exhibition shows a curated selection of contemporary Czech art and design.

This pop-up is part of a cross-cultural design exchange as well as is a strategic collaboration between the Consulate General of Czechia in Hong Kong, DOX by Qubus (Prague), and PMQ (Hong Kong). The initiative aims to foster bilateral creative dialogue, promote emerging and established designers, and build long-term partnerships between Czechia and Hong Kong’s design communities. The project is anchored in the Year of Czech Design in Hong Kong 2025, with a reciprocal exhibition of Hong Kong design planned in 2026 or 2027 (planned by a separate PMQ-led project).

DOX by Qubus is a curated gallery shop located within the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art. It showcases the finest contemporary Czech and Slovak designs and conceptual works. It was introduced in 2008 by artist and designer Jakub Berdych Karpelis under the official name DOX by Qubus. In the minimalist premises of the DOX Contemporary Art Centre in Holešovice, Prague, Czech Republic, which were designed by the renowned architect Ivan Kroupa, major icons of Czech and Slovak design, including glass, porcelain and jewellery, are concentrated in one place. Designed by Qubus Design Studio, the store's interior fits in with the character of the entire building with its simplicity, making the exhibited objects stand out. Qubus / Founded in 2002 by Jakub Berdych Karpelis and Maxim Velčovský, Qubus opened the Czech Republic’s first design shop in Prague. Not only was the concept unique, but the designers also founded the independent art design brand themselves. The brand designs witty and unconventional contemporary Czech and conceptual designs, produced in collaboration with local manufacturers. Over the last 24 years, Qubus has created iconic products known for their humour and fresh interpretations, and has become one of the most popular design studios in Prague, attracting audiences from all around the world.
