Author Talk: Thomas E. Weber

The Roeliff Jansen Community Library is pleased to welcome journalist and author Thomas E. Weber for an evening talk on his new book, Cloud Warriors: Deadly Storms, Climate Chaos—and the Pioneers Creating a Revolution in Weather Forecasting (St. Martin’s Press, 2025).

Cloud Warriors tells the unprecedented inside story of the scientists and innovators transforming the future of weather forecasting. Weber takes readers into the high-stakes world of pioneers creating life-saving tools to predict and respond to nature’s most dangerous events—from tornadoes and hurricanes to heat waves and wildfires. With vivid storytelling and deep reporting, Cloud Warriors reveals how breakthroughs in forecasting are critical to keeping people safe in an age of extreme weather.

Thomas E. Weber is a veteran writer, editor, and newsroom leader with a lifelong interest in science and technology’s impact on society. He was the Wall Street Journal’s first internet columnist and later a bureau chief for the paper. As executive editor of Time, he oversaw the magazine’s feature journalism. Weber has also taught journalism and publishing at Columbia University, New York University, and Princeton University, his alma mater. A longtime part-time resident of Columbia County, he and his wife divide their time between New York City and their home in the Hudson Valley.
