Talk: “Linen in Dromore: Past, Present, and Future” With Kerry Freud

For centuries, Dromore was a thriving hub of linen production, its flax fields, bleaching greens, hemstitching factories, and busy mills shaping both the economy and the daily lives of local families. From the rhythmic clatter of looms to the careful hand-finishing of fine linen goods, generations of skilled makers helped put this small town on the map.

In this engaging talk, Kerry Freud, will take you on a journey through the town’s linen heritage, exploring how Dromore’s unique combination of craftsmanship, industry, and community spirit created a legacy that still echoes today.

Drawing on historical records, oral histories, and her own work in heritage craft, Kerry will look at the rise and decline of the industry, the people and places that made it flourish, and how its skills and stories can be preserved for future generations.

The evening will also consider how the traditions of the past can inspire a renewed, sustainable future for Dromore, reconnecting people with land, craft, and community.
