This highly interactive online institute is designed for PreK/TK teachers and administrators working in dual language and biliteracy programs. Participants will explore research-based practices that align with the unique developmental needs of preschool learners in bilingual settings.
This session will feature:
- Strategic use of Spanish (or other non-English languages) and English in developmentally appropriate ways
- Best practices for engaging young learners in content, language, and literacy development
- Strategies for introducing and supporting the Bridge and bridging between languages in PreK/TK
- Programmatic tools such as biliteracy schedules, language/content allocation plans, and curriculum maps tailored for PreK/TK settings
What You'll Learn
- Effective strategies for the strategic use of Spanish (or another non-English language) and English in biliteracy instruction
- Best practices for teaching literacy in both languages
- Practical strategies to implement the Bridge and bridging between languages
- The biliteracy unit framework (BUF) for designing and delivering instruction that integrates language and content and meets the needs of young developing bilinguals
- Programmatic structures to support biliteracy instruction and to ensure sustainability, including:
- Language and content allocation plans
- Biliteracy schedules
- Biliteracy curriculum maps
Format & Schedule:This is a one-day, 3.5 hour live Zoom session.
