September 9 will mark the beginning of Poetry Hickory's 19th consecutive year of monthly poetry readings in downtown Hickory. The reading, to be held at Taste Full Beans, will begin at 6:15 with featured, award-winning authors, Paul Jones and Debra Kaufman.
Former UNC professor and NC Poetry Society board member, Paul Jones of Carrboro, NC, is a winner of the NCWN Harperprints Chapbook Competition and author of Something Wonderful (2021) and Something Necessary (2024), both from Redhawk Publishing. He has also been inducted in the NC Computer Science Hall of Fame
Debra Kaufman has five full-length poetry collections, most recently God Shattered (Jacar) and Outwalking the Shadow (Redhawk). She has written many monologues and short plays, many of which have been performed, and five full-length plays, most recently Seeing Light, and she recently adapted Johnny Johnson, Paul Green's 1936 antiwar play for the Paul Green Society.
