Winter Tree ID with Liz Moss!

Join WVSU Extension Service on Saturday, January 31, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Kanawha State Forest Nature Center to learn how to identify trees in winter! We will begin inside with a lecture and specimens, but participants should dress warmly and be prepared for light hiking on moderate terrain for part of the second half of this workshop.

We will cover basic winter tree ID clues- leaf scar arrangement, twigs, buds, lenticels, bud scales, etc.- and learn to use a dichotomous key. Go home armed with some confidence, a pocket tree ID guide, and a hand lens!
