π Identifying Medicinal and Edible Plants

Location: Johnson Hollow
Difficulty: Very Easy
On this hike we will be wandering the edges of the picnic areas in Johnson Hollow. There is an abundance of useful plants growing in this part of the forest. We will point out the medicinal and edible plants and discuss their medicinal or nutritional features.

Join Naturalist Tiffany Jarrett for a fun children's hike on our popular Interpretive Trail! This hike is suitable for very young children (up to age 10) and their families, as well as anyone looking for a gentle but informative hike!

Join Naturalist Jess Blalock on a loop hike where you will learn how KSF became KSF! We'll also discuss Fall fungi and what the wildlife is up to! Designed for ages 11 and up, as well as for anyone interested in an easy to moderate hike with discussion of the role of the CCC!

π Aquatic Life in Davis Creek with John Wirts (Easy) We will use nets to catch and identify fish, crayfish, aquatic insects, and other life forms! Fun and educational for kids, and interesting for all ages!
π¦ Owl Pellet Dissection with Naturalist Tiffany and Naturalist Jess!
**Owl Pellets come from Three Rivers Aviary!
Naturalists Tiffany and Jess will teach kids about how owl pellets are formed and what we can learn from them! Kids will have an opportunity to dissect their own owl pellet and see which animal is inside by comparing it to an identification chart!
(Owl pellet dissection involves handling of real animal remains; please make sure your child is comfortable with this before participating. If they are not comfortable dissecting a pellet but are curious they are welcome to watch the Naturalists dissect theirs! ππ )
