Camphill Farm Community residents will be showcasing their heart-opening artworks once again at Whale House Museum in Hermanus. This year there will be 2 separate art projects showcased.
The first will be the ‘Wheels of Life’ project on Saturday the 25th of October 2025, opening at 10am. The residents, adults with intellectual disabilities, spent several weeks creating their own personal mandala in a step-by-step fashion.
They were encouraged by their therapeutic art facilitator Ashleigh Temple-Camp, to express different cycles of their life in their own unique way within simple, guided steps, as the abilities of the individuals vary greatly.
A variety of mandala patterns were used as inspiration for the backdrop, but each artist made their own personal choices for their mandala and according to their personality and vision within each step. While many residents worked independently, certain residents required assistance. The creative process was largely healing for the residents, but the results are spectacular, and the residents are very proud and excited to share their works with the public! After finishing their own personal mandala, they got together to make an extra-large group mandala.
Visitors to the exhibition will be invited to ‘participate’ in the exhibition itself by walking around this large, central mandala at the centre of the exhibition, whilst viewing the unique mandalas surrounding it. This way the visitors will be a moving part of a ‘very larger mandala’ … a wheel within a wheel!
