The Anxious Generation explores why today’s kids and teens are struggling more with anxiety, stress, and loneliness—and what grown-ups can do to help. Jonathan Haidt explains how childhood has changed over the last decade, especially with the rise of smartphones and social media, and why these changes matter for young people’s well-being.
The book looks at two major shifts:
Kids are spending far less time in real, hands-on play—the kind of play where they explore, problem-solve, take safe risks, and learn to get along with others.
Kids are spending far more time on phones and social media, which can make them more anxious, overwhelmed, and disconnected from the real world.
Haidt shares research, stories, and simple ideas that parents, teachers, and communities can use to help kids grow up healthier, happier, and more confident.
