REGISTRATION:
—Costs $160/team, which is $40/player.
—Message Timothy Spurgeon Carlson to save your team a spot.
—Captains must pay in full via Venmo the week of the tournament.
—Every participant must sign an electronic waiver the week of.
—If inclement weather causes a last minute cancellation, you will be reimbursed in full. We will not keep your money for almost providing you with a service.
FORMAT DETAILS:
—Participants must play as their biological sex at birth.
—Every team must have at least one female.
—Pool play followed by single elimination bracket play.
—The semis and finals will be match play: 21-21-15.
—After pool play, teams will be seeded for bracket play based on wins first and points second. If applicable, ties will be decided by who won head-to-head in pools. If that's inapplicable, ties will be decided by a coin toss.
RULE HIGHLIGHTS:
—The yellow OPTX ball is the default game ball.
—All players can block and attack at and above the net.
—The block does not count as one of your team’s three touches, or as one of your personal touches.
—Like indoors, doubling the first contact with finger action is legal, including in serve receive and when passing freeballs.
—Like the women's NCAA rule, doubling the second contact is legal as long as the double happened in a single attempt to the play the ball and the ball stays on the same side of the net.
—Setting across the net is illegal unless the ball's direction is perpendicular with the shoulder line, or unless the overset was a legitimate attempt to set a teammate, as judged by the ref.
—The attacker is not allowed to tip the ball with an open hand. The attacker is allowed to joust with an open hand as long as their contact is simultaneous with the blocker's contact.
—Blockers are allowed to redirect the ball with one or two hands.
—Any net touch during play results in a loss of point. If the ball is down before the net touch, there is no violation.
—Coming under the net is legal as long as it doesn’t interfere with another player's ability to play the ball.
—In the absence of antennae, the poles will function as such.
—You get one toss on your serve.
—Let serves are legal.
