A group of local agencies and nonprofits have teamed up to host the third annual, “Horses for Heroes”, a day of appreciation for Henderson, Union, and Webster County First Responders, Law Enforcement, Veterans and their families. These individuals are invited to a day at the farm for family fun from 12 PM - 4 PM. The event will provide support through a fun, stress-free, family friendly event that offers a resource fair, BBQ, horses, and children’s activities. This day will incorporate equine/human interactions to promote emotional and healing support in a farm environment.
The following groups have collaborated to bring the event to Henderson—Rolling Hills Equestrian Center, Healing Reins of Kentucky, Henderson County Public Library, Infinite Hope, KY Dept of Veterans Affairs, Evansville Vet Center, Henderson Police Department, Henderson Fire Department, City of Henderson, Freedom Senior Services, and Defending Heroes Project. Onsite activities will include food by Mission BBQ, children’s games, miniature horses, a walking tour of the farm, hayrides, horse grooming, a police cruiser, a fire truck, and more.
If the public would like to get involved, the group is accepting donations of gift cards, monetary donations, and letters of appreciation for those who will attend. The group invites local businesses to donate $10 coffee cards, meal cards or other gift cards. They also invite schools, civic groups and the public to send notes or cards of appreciation to handout at the event. Thank a firefighter, police officer, EMT or veteran cards can be sent to PO Box 2027, Henderson, KY 42419 up until November 1.
