Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA)

Join us at the Blackwood Educational Land Institute for a four-day Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) course, hosted in partnership with Wilderness Medical Associates International (WMAI)—a global leader in wilderness medical education.

This immersive course is ideal for amateur outdoor enthusiasts and outdoor professionals alike, including hikers, farmers, educators, guides, camp staff, and anyone responsible for safety in outdoor or remote settings.

The WAFA curriculum focuses on the knowledge and skills needed to assess patients, manage medical and trauma emergencies, and communicate effectively with rescue personnel when definitive care is delayed. Instruction is hands-on and intensive, designed to build confidence through real-world application.

Course content includes:

• Basic lifesaving skills for wilderness environments
• Patient assessment and field decision-making
• Management of common injuries and illnesses
• Evacuation planning and rescue communication
• Proper documentation and reporting

Learning takes place through a combination of:

• Interactive lectures and group discussion
• Skills labs and practical drills
• Simulations and realistic case studies
• Scenario-based training on the farm grounds

Course Cost:

• $600 — includes tuition and lunch provided all four days

Optional Onsite Lodging & Meals:
Guests may choose to stay overnight at Blackwood for an additional $300, which includes:

• Lodging in our cozy onsite bunkhouse
• Breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day

Certification:
Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) certification through Wilderness Medical Associates International.
