Join us for a hands-on, outdoor workshop focused on planting native trees and shrubs in a working orchard. This event is all about learning by doing, getting your hands in the soil, asking questions, and seeing how native plants can play a meaningful role in food production and land care.
During the workshop, we’ll be planting a native tree and shrub hedgerow along the perimeter of our orchard. This living border helps protect the orchard while supporting wildlife, improving soil health, and creating a more resilient and beautiful farm landscape.
What you’ll learn
• Why native trees and shrubs are important for healthy farms and healthy ecosystems
• How perimeter hedgerows can provide wind protection, habitat for beneficial insects and birds, and improved growing conditions
• Simple, practical ways to integrate native plants into orchards, gardens, and homesteads
• How native plantings support long-term productivity while caring for the land
Participants of all ages are welcome to help with planting. This is a great opportunity for kids and adults alike to learn where trees come from, how they’re planted, and why they matter. No prior experience needed—just curiosity and comfortable outdoor clothing.
We’ll have a selection of native & adapted trees and shrubs in our nursery available for purchase. These plants are well-suited for hedgerows, windbreaks, food forests, and home landscapes, and we’ll be happy to help you choose the right ones for your space.
