About the Speakers:
Dimple Abichandani is a nationally recognized philanthropic leader, lawyer, and author of , a book that reimagines how philanthropy can meet this moment.
For two decades, she has worked to reshape philanthropy’s purpose and practice while leading innovative funding institutions. As Executive Director of the General Service Foundation (2015–2022), she aligned the foundation’s grantmaking, investments, and governance with justice values. She was the founding director of the Rise Together Fund, a donor collaborative at the Proteus Fund, and previously led the Center for Social Justice at UC Berkeley School of Law.
A National Center for Family Philanthropy Fellow, Dimple’s leadership has been recognized with a Scrivener Award for Creative Grantmaking. She serves on the Board of Directors of Solidaire Network and has served on the boards/steering committees of the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project, Northern California Grantmakers, and Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees. Dimple is based in the San Francisco Bay Area where she advises donors and foundations working towards a more just and sustainable future.
Óscar Chávez: As President & CEO of Community Foundation Sonoma County, Óscar Chávez leads efforts to advance belonging, equity, and resilience throughout the region. Drawing on more than 25 years of experience in community leadership, Óscar has held key roles in government and nonprofits alike.
Before joining CFSC, he served as the Assistant Director of Human Services for the County of Sonoma, where he oversaw the nationally recognized Upstream Investments Initiative and led the department’s planning, research, and evaluation functions. He previously served as Executive Director of the Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County, and earlier in his career, directed business support services and public engagement for a large community-based organization in Bakersfield.
Óscar’s leadership and commitment have been recognized by Hispanics in Philanthropy, the Sonoma County Jefferson Award, the North Bay Business Journal’s Nonprofit Leadership Award, and as one of the North Bay’s “40 Under 40” leaders. He has also served on the boards of First 5 Sonoma County and Health Action Together, and as a member of the California Stewardship Network.
He lives in Windsor with his wife, Christine, and their four children.
