Paint pretty poinsettias to hang on your wall for the holiday season. The class is for all skill levels as we work step-by-step through the process. We will focus on designing an arrangement with a view looking down on the plant, having light, medium and dark values, and saving areas of white paper.

Materials for Karen Bejin’s Watercolor Classes
Watercolor paints The main colors I use are: Alizarin crimson permanent, Quinacridone burnt orange, Aureolin or lemon yellow, Quinacridone gold, Antwerp blue, Cobalt blue, and French Ultramarine blue. Additionally, Winsor orange, a purple, sap green, a warm red and a black paint are useful, but if you’re just starting out they can be added later. If you have a red, blue and yellow in different shades than mine bring them and that will be fine. Small pallets of professional grade, transparent watercolor paint with the colors we use will be available for purchase if you don’t have your own. I usually buy tubes of either Daniel Smith or Windsor Newton, professional grade. The paint in the tube is squirted into the openings on your pallet and left to dry for a few days before use. You can find these paints online at places like Jerry’s Artarama or Dick Blick, or buy the small palette from me ($39) and try them before investing in a set yourself. The small palette will contain enough paint for several paintings.
Brushes Round and flat in small, medium and large sizes. A small size rigger brush and an old toothbrush are also useful.
Paper The watercolor paper for this class will be provided. I will provide Arches 140# coldpress watercolor paper.
Additional Materials An HB #2 pencil for drawing and a soft eraser; 3 containers for water (yogurt or cottage cheese containers work well); An empty pallet or plate for mixing paint; a box of tissues, not scented or with lotion; Paper towel; An old terrycloth washcloth or piece of an old towel; A flat board to put your painting on, about 12” X 16”; A ruler; and Masking tape.
Wear older clothes or bring an apron or old shirt for over your clothes. A water bottle for drinking and you may want to bring snacks or a lunch.
*** If you are a beginning painter and don’t have supplies, bring what you have and you can borrow from me in class and find out what you’d like to eventually purchase for yourself. The only thing I can’t loan out is the paint, so either purchase from me, or get your own. Michaels may have the colors you need, but remember to buy the professional grade.
You must sign up before class so the teacher can prepare enough supplies for paid students.
**Cancellation policy is there are no cash refunds. If you cancel 24 hours before class, you will be issued a credit.**
All classes need to be paid for at signup by cash, credit or local check. You may sign up in person at the Gallery or call 715-558-0594 during business hours 10-5pm.
