Let’s celebrate the Summer Solstice and International Yoga Day! Yoga practitioners through out the world will be doing this exact practice!
We will be practicing outside so please bring: a mat, water, sun block, and bug spray. If there is rain we will have a space near by to practice in just in case.
You do not need to do the entire 108, many people will bring a friend and cut it in half. Please trust your body and follow its pacing. Also, you are more than welcome to come and meditate, or “Hold space” or silently encourage the warriors on their mats.
This is a donation based practice and all funds raised will be donated to the L’Orignal Food Bank. And a huge thank you to Champlain Township for making this event happen!
This practice seeks to bring people together in community and in service to others. The intention for doing this practice varies and all are valid. Traditionally many devote the practice to someone who is ill, or simply as a way to challenge yourself: physically, emotionally and Mentally. Feel free to bring a photo or something to remind yourself why you are putting yourself through this strong asana practice.
Why 108? 108 has extensive spiritual and scientific significance, including:
- 108 is the number of “Upanishads” (sacred text in Hinduism and yoga)
- 108 is the number of names for Shiva (important Hindu god).
- 108 is the number of names for the Buddha
- 108 is the Chinese number representing “man”
- 108 is the number of beads on a Catholic rosary and on a Tibetan “mala” (prayer beads)
- In astronomy, the distance between the Sun and Earth is roughly 108 times the Sun’s diameter... and it goes on and on!
