Audition Requirements:
We are looking for actors (18+) with strong improvisational instincts, a quick wit, and the ability to engage directly with an audience while staying fully in character. This is an immersive dinner theatre piece where scripted scenes are woven between improvised “table work” with guests, and the story unfolds throughout the room. Performers should be comfortable working in close proximity to the audience, balancing humor with storytelling, and projecting a strong presence in a busy, 360° environment. The show’s style blends over-the-top comedic moments with in-the-moment responsiveness, so adaptability is key.

Auditions and callbacks will consist of cold readings from the script (sides will be provided) as well as interactive improvisation exercises to simulate guest engagement. Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in, and be ready to listen, react, and play!

Character Breakdowns
All roles are open. Actors of all races, genders, and identities are encouraged to audition. Ages are guidelines, not limits.

Lane Gold:
Male-presenting; 20-40s. Opening a night club with Wade/Wanda. Lane is the guy who always fails upwards. He can't lose. He's your typical Eighties down-on-his-luck hero.

Wade (or Wanda) Shouere:
Male-presenting or Female-presenting, 20-40s. Opening a night club with Lane. Not cool by any stretch of the imagination but desperately trying to be.

Sam Portnoy:
Female-presenting, 20-40s. Sam is a Ventura California Valley Girl with natural charm. Though she may be totally tubular, she also got fired for stabbing a coworker with a pen. She dreams of becoming a record executive.

Claire Reynolds:
Female-presenting, 40-60s. Claire is a desperately lonely Senator's wife. She's a former free-love hippie who married for money. She hates her husband and her life and is infatuated with Lane.

Alexi (or Alexis):
Male-presenting or Female-presenting, any age. Speaks with an obvious Russian accent. Alexi(s) is your typical KGB agent in the States to spy on American assets. They are lighthearted dangerous muscle.

Agent Al Bean:
Male-presenting or Female-presenting, any age. Agent Bean is an unlucky CIA agent just trying to get by. They are undercover most of the night , bouncing between being the chef and the DJ.

Various Atmospheric Characters:
These are wandering characters that are not suspects or involved in the plot of the show. They understand the world presented in the show and move from table to table during the between-scene breaks talking up the rumors. Atmospheric characters are allowed to create their own characters, with the approval of the director.

Casting Information:
If cast, all performers will be required to become a General Member of Black Dog Theatre. General Membership costs a $25 fee (which grants membership through the end of 2025) and requires a signature agreeing to our Code of Conduct.
