The Conversation - A Tribute to Gene Hackman at the Electric Palace

Remembrance Sunday is a new matinee strand where we celebrate the life and craft of a recently passed cinematic luminary. On the first Sunday of each month the Electric Palace will pay tribute to those who have made an impact in front of or behind the camera and whose work has inspired audiences and helped to shape modern cinema.

Starting with Gene Hackman, we present The Conversation, written, directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola and recently restored. Also starring Harrison Ford and Teri Garr, this much overlooked ‘neo-noir thriller’ film stars Hackman as an audio surveillance expert, hired by a mysterious client to eavesdrop on a couple who may or may not be in extreme danger.

We lost Gene Hackman in February. A two-time Academy Award-winner and receiver of two BAFTAs, three Golden Globes, not to mention the countless nominations from international film festivals, guilds and critics circles. A reluctant star, Hackman began his acting career on Broadway, just before the rise of a new wave of American independent filmmaking which paved the way for his unique body of work.
