This week is an extended special, featuring:
Simon Stanley Ward & The Shadows of Doubt!
SIMON STANLEY WARD
Simon has been performing almost non stop since his teenage years! Over the last decade, Simon has been playing his original music with his band The Shadows of Doubt in pubs, music venues, theatres and festivals in London, across the UK and in Northern Spain. Described as a country singer at heart with a streak of the surreal running through him, his live show is engaging, energetic and constantly evolving. At it's best his performances can be gut-wretchingly moving and moments later silly, self deprecating and hilarious. His influences come from far a wide and include Elvis, Bob Dylan and John Prine.
THE SHADOWS OF DOUBT
Simon's band The Shadows of Doubt have been playing with him since 2013. A highly experienced, skilled and versatile outfit which includes Paul Lush (Lead guitarist/Producer), Neil Marsh (Drums) and Geoff Easeman (Bass guitar). Guitarist Paul Lush was nominated for Best Instrumentalist at The 'UK Americana Awards' in 2016 for his fantastic work with Danny and The Champions of the World. Drummer Neil Marsh has also toured with county/folk group Ahab, folk singer Jason McNiff and can be seen playing in blues combos at Ronnie Scott's jazz club. As well as bass, multi-instrumentalist Geoff plays guitar, mandolin, violin and keyboards. He has played with folk singer Roy Hill and in The Ty Watling band. His bass playing is influences by such greats as Lee Sklar and James Jamerson.
JASON MCNIFF
Jason is a troubadour who has made nine albums which people call Folk, Americana, or Alt. Country. There is an Englishness in his guitar playing however, and you might like to think of Bert Jansch or Wizz Jones meeting John Prine & Townes Van Zandt. Time Out writes, ‘McNiffs quiet, intimate, fragile-sounding vocals draw you into his world, an almost timeless place, through which he drifts, a romantic loner, a dreamer, at home with the blues.’ He is often touted as one of the UKs most overlooked musical treasures.
