Learn how to survey for the eggs of the rare brown hairstreak butterfly!
Come along to learn about the rare brown hairstreak butterfly, their relationship to our beavers, how to survey for them and get stuck in!
Adults can be secretive and harder to spot as they flitter along the tops of ash trees. However, females lay their eggs on the young growth of blackthorn, so think twice when trimming your hedges! Therefore, surveying for their eggs is the best way to assess the presence of this incredible species.
For this event, our urban beaver officer and butterfly conservation youth panellist, Şeniz and our biodiversity data officer, Alex, are teaming up with the Herts and Middlesex branch of Butterfly Conservation!
Meet at the beaver mural underpass opposite the car park at the McDonald's in Westway Cross Retail Park (W3W: wacky.vibes.spider). At the retail park, there is free parking for up to 4 hours and unlimited free parking specifically at the McDonald's.
Make sure to bring warm clothes, and lots of water.
Credit for Brown Hairstreak egg image goes to Zayed Ahmend, fellow Butterfly Conservation youth panellist.
