I’m flipping AAA into a Rain City refuge for one night only.
The lights drop, the edges blur, and we tune the room to Seattle’s strange, glorious frequency — where guitars sound waterlogged, harmonies ache a bit, and nobody’s in a rush to cheer up.
We’re taking a slow wander through the Pacific Northwest’s musical undercurrent: the brooding weight of Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, the scrappy genius of Mudhoney and Screaming Trees, the quiet detonations of Nirvana (used sparingly, respectfully), and the introspective aftershocks that ripple out into deeper cuts, Sub Pop oddities, and late-night, rain-stained weirdness.
Think distortion without bravado.
Melancholy with teeth.
Music that leans in rather than shows off.
This isn’t a sing-along. It’s an atmosphere. A room that thickens as the night goes on, where one drink becomes two because leaving feels like interrupting something important.
Dress code: Flannel & Feedback — thrift-store layers, battered boots, cardigans that have seen things. No costumes. No irony. Just look like you might own a guitar you don’t talk about.
Come in from the rain. Stay a while.
A slow-burn drift from garage grit to rain-soaked introspection:
Foundations & proto-grunge:
Neil Young (honorary Seattle, fight me), The Sonics, The Wipers — raw edges, loud feelings, no polish.
Sub Pop years:
Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Screaming Trees — distortion with purpose, riffs that carry emotional baggage.
Harmonies & heaviness:
Alice in Chains, early Pearl Jam — where it gets darker, slower, and slightly uncomfortable in a way that feels earned.
Quiet detonations:
Nirvana — deep cuts and careful placement. No drive-by anthems. No cheap thrills.
Aftershocks & drift:
The Postal Service, Modest Mouse, Fleet Foxes — introspective, textural, music for staring out of windows pretending you’re fine.
Taylor’s DJ brain:
Context-aware sequencing, emotional pacing, zero vibe-wrecking gear changes. Think flow, not flex.
Requests:
Seattle-adjacent picks via the booth or our AAA jukebox — Taylor will keep it on-theme. Mostly. No guarantees after midnight.
