Wikipedia defines a Vision Quest as a rite of passage in some Native Cultures. It usually consists of a series of ceremonies led by Elders and supported by the community. The process includes fasting up to 4 days and this time is spent alone in nature at a sacred site, which is generally chosen by the Elders. During this time, the person undertaking the quest prays for Vision, life's purpose, guidance for their role in the community and how they may best serve their community.
Earth Wisdom's version of this is 'Wisdom Quest'. Wisdom Quest is a 24-hour commitment of austerity. It is 24-hours of NO food (exceptions for diabetes), NO books or journaling, NO electronics, NO cigarettes or alcohol, and NO hiking or exploring. Participants sit quietly at their nature camp, simply observing, listening, reflecting and connecting with their guides and helpers. After their 24 hours have passed, they are welcomed back to a Sacred Fire that has been tended by Fire Tenders the entire time, in their honor. They are welcome to share their experiences with the group and enjoy a ceremony and Feast in their honor.
The cost for this Women only Wisdom Quest is $100 per person. A $25 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place. Deposits must be received at least 2 weeks prior to the Event. Participation is limited to 8 women on their quest and no limit or cost to Fire Tenders.
Fire Tenders camp for FREE or come and go as they wish. Stay one hour or the entire time! Anyone who wishes to be a Fire Tender is asked to bring a dish or snack to pass and will enjoy time around the Sacred Fire while holding space for those women on their quest, and honor them with Ceremony and Feast upon their return.
Participants should arrive at 9am on Saturday to begin their preparation. They will receive instruction and meditation as a group. They will be escorted by Fire Tenders to their predetermined solitary camp locations to set up their tents and begin their Quest. During this 24-hour period, while the Questers fast, meditate, observe nature and pray, the Fire Tenders keep the Sacred Fire, sing songs, offer prayers of support and continue to hold space for the Questers until they return.
Participants of the Wisdom Quest will need to bring a personal bed roll or bag, your own shelter (small tent), raincoat, comfortable shoes and clothing. Please consider weather conditions for your items. NO cell phones, iPad, tablets, books, journals, etc. allowed to the Questers during their fast in the woods. Wisdom Quest will be held rain or shine, and you will be required to sign a liability waiver at check-in.
